Magnesium bisglycinate

What it is
Magnesium is involved in hundreds of enzymatic reactions, including the ones that govern muscle relaxation and the nervous system's wind-down.
Why it is in ONCE DUSK
Bisglycinate is magnesium chelated to glycine, which is why it absorbs without the digestive misery magnesium oxide is famous for. Oxide is cheap because it is poorly absorbed.
Why this dose
This is the number most labels hide. DUSK carries 300 mg of ELEMENTAL magnesium, not 300 mg of the bisglycinate compound. Magnesium bisglycinate is roughly 14% elemental by weight, so 300 mg elemental requires more than 2 g of input material. A label reading '300 mg magnesium bisglycinate' is delivering closer to 42 mg of actual magnesium.
Fully-reacted, non-buffered bisglycinate. High-density granulated. Buffered or oxide-blended material is rejected.
How it works with the rest of the formula
Magnesium bisglycinate is magnesium bonded to glycine, which means it quietly contributes extra glycine on top of the 3 g DUSK already carries for sleep. The two work the same shift. Alongside L-theanine and chamomile, magnesium is one of four ingredients in the formula pointed at the wind-down, none of which is a sedative.
What to look for on any label
Read for two things and ignore everything else. First, is the number elemental or compound weight, because the difference is roughly seven-fold and most labels do not say. Second, what form: bisglycinate and citrate absorb, oxide largely does not. A label reading '500 mg magnesium oxide' is one of the emptiest claims in the category.
300 mg sits under the 350 mg supplemental upper limit. Magnesium can loosen stools at higher intakes, which is one more reason the form and the number both matter.
Questions
Is 300 mg elemental or compound weight?
Elemental. That is the meaningful number. Magnesium bisglycinate is about 14% elemental magnesium by weight, so delivering 300 mg elemental takes over 2 g of raw material.
Why bisglycinate instead of citrate or oxide?
Bisglycinate is chelated to glycine, absorbs well and is gentle on digestion. Oxide is poorly absorbed. Citrate absorbs reasonably but is more likely to loosen stools.
Will magnesium make me groggy in the morning?
Magnesium is not a sedative. It supports the wind-down rather than forcing sleep, which is why DUSK contains no melatonin.
