L-Theanine

What it is
L-theanine is an amino acid found in tea leaves. It promotes a relaxed but alert state rather than drowsiness.
Why it is in ONCE DUSK
It takes the edge off without sedation. In a night time formula it smooths the transition to sleep for people whose problem is a busy mind rather than a lack of tiredness.
Why this dose
200 mg is the standard studied dose and the amount used in most of the research on relaxation and sleep quality.
L-isomer, minimum 98%.
How it works with the rest of the formula
L-theanine is the daytime-calm ingredient of the four sleep actives, and the one that does least on its own at night. Its role in DUSK is to smooth the edge for people whose obstacle to sleep is a busy head rather than a body that is not tired. Glycine handles falling asleep, magnesium handles the physical wind-down, chamomile handles the ritual.
What to look for on any label
Confirm it is the L-isomer, since the D form is not what was studied. Look for 98% purity or better. 200 mg is the standard studied dose, so anything dramatically below that is decoration and anything dramatically above it is not better supported by evidence.
L-theanine is calming, not sedating. If you are expecting to be knocked out, this is not the ingredient doing that job, and DUSK does not contain one that does.
